REPLACING OBSOLVED OR INCOMPLETE SOLUTIONS
MEDICAL – BOUCHES-DU-RHÔNE PRIMARY HEALTH INSURANCE FUND
We tell you all about it, based on the case of Jean-Sébastien PLOIX, head of IT at the Caisse Primaire d’Assurance Maladie des Bouches-du-Rhône: infrastructure, issues, needs, use and benefits of WAPT.
Presentation
The Caisse Primaire d’Assurance Maladie is a health-related organization with a public service mission in France.
The Bouches-du-Rhône (13) CPAM is one of the organizations with the highest number of employees, around 2,000.
2,200 workstations administered
34 locations
10 adminsys
CPAM 13 infrastructure
CPAM 13’s technical team comprises 3 system administrators, 6 analysts and a service manager. 6 helpdesk staff also use WAPT for application distribution.
CPAM 13 operates 70 physical servers and over 200 virtual machines throughout the Bouches-du-Rhône département. This represents around thirty sites for 2000 employees.
70 servers
10 application releases per month
Problems encountered:
Diversity of tools
- The problem at CPAM 13 was that the technicians had to deal with two tools. The “Adminsys” tool had to be changed, as it was becoming obsolete. As for Pulse, the second tool proposed by the national health insurance fund, its “Push” mode of operation did not completely suit the team. This mix of solutions was not sustainable in the long term.
- The first tool was mainly used for general distribution, although it was also possible to do a bit of inventory of computer equipment.
- The second tool, which had become the CPAM’s main tool, did not have all the functionalities of the old one. As a result, the team used it mainly for unitary distribution.
Testimony
We were quick to endorse WAPT. Our tests confirmed our choice.
Why use WAPT?
There were several reasons why CPAM chose WAPT. Firstly, CPAM was keen to find an Open Source solution. In addition, the CPAM appreciated the fact that it was discovering a French company (for support, in particular) that was responsive to WAPT’s evolution. Customer references in a similar context also facilitated this decision.
Versioning, support and training
After adopting WAPT Community, CPAM decided to call on Tranquil IT for training. After spending 6 months using WAPT Community and one month on the trial version of WAPT Enterprise, CPAM decides to upgrade to the Enterprise version.
Test phase
- 1-month test
- Test carried out on part of the head office as well as a few remote sites
Testimony
What WAPT has done for CPAM 13
With regard to deployment on workstations that are rarely switched on, WAPT has provided genuine monitoring. So, even if a workstation is only switched on every 6 months, it will still recover any updates it has not made during that time.
With WAPT, the CPAM can deploy on portable PCs (for telecommuting or regular travel). Thanks to the inventory that takes place when the machine is started up, the CPAM quickly obtains information on the workstation and can quickly launch a deployment, without the distribution department having to do anything.
Estimated gains using WAPT
With WAPT, CPAM achieves a success rate on its broadcasts of between 95% and 98%, which is well above the results of the old tools. There has also been a drop in user demand, particularly for workstations that need updating.
The CPAM has also noted time savings in reporting. By centralizing data, it is possible to quickly retrieve information and statistics on deployments.
With WAPT, the CPAM no longer has to deal with things that have already been done. What’s more, it saves time when it comes to preparing actions on IT equipment or corrective actions, as there are far fewer of these than before.
