Presentation
The head office of the Conseil Départemental du Tarn et Garonne, is in Montauban. Our client has an infrastructure with a large number of workstations, requiring optimized management. In a few figures, the Conseil Départemental’s IT infrastructure comprises around 1,200 workstations on 47 sites, 5,500 workstations for the 18 collèges.

Issues
Before implementing WAPT and Samba-AD with Tranquil IT, the structure had a computer network running Samba 3, an aging administration, with difficulties integrating new computers in this domain. The computers were managed via GLPI and Teamviewer for remote control and individual troubleshooting. In addition, updates were managed using WSUS.
It’s true that the customer was looking for a solution for software deployment and automation, Windows updates, workstation administration and associated security, including for colleges. The aim was to reduce travel to remote sites for interventions that could be handled automatically, and above all to gain greater flexibility in IT asset management.

What WAPT and Samba-AD have brought to the Conseil Départemantal
Beforehand, to anticipate the migration from Samba 3 to Samba-AD, extensive collaboration and consultation between the Conseil Départemental, Bluemind and Tranquil IT was essential to the project’s success.

As for WAPT, a POC was carried out solely on the Conseil Départemental’s 1,200 workstations, excluding those linked to colleges. Inventory visibility was not impacted by the installation of WAPT, as the structure was previously working with the GLPI solution.

Estimated gains with use
With hindsight, WAPT is the solution that brings flexibility to centralized workstation administration (software deployment, updates, security…).
“We can devote more time to system administration tasks on other equipment: firewalls, messaging, switches, servers to be migrated, …” confides BARTHE Raymond. Tasks that are very important in the daily life of an IT department, and for which it is necessary to free up time to carry them out properly.
Finally, for Samba-AD, the solution makes it possible to have a more widely secure number of computers combining modernity and better integration with software publishers. What’s more, should they have any questions, Tranquil IT’s support team will answer them to upgrade to a new version, or for specific developments.
