WAPT 2.5.2 released: What features does it offer?

After several months’ waiting, the new version of WAPT 2.5.2 has finally been released. Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, WAPT 2.5.1 (a version currently undergoing CSPN certification), aims to improve security, performance and reduce unnecessary consumption. Let’s take a look at the main advances of this new version.

    Enhanced safety

    Performance optimization

Security is one of the key objectives of version 2.5.2.
To this end, SSL client authentication is now configured by default. This enhances server security by protecting API points. An additional benefit of this change is to simplify WAPT installation and configuration.

Bandwidth and processor power are precious resources, and WAPT 2.5.2 tackles their optimal use. The downloading of inventory updates from the agent to the server is now more atomic, reducing unnecessary consumption. The aim of this approach is to improve overall operational efficiency for large-scale fleets.

    The main updates

    Default customer certificates

In this version, WAPT is configured by default to work with client certificates. It is no longer necessary to activate “verify_cert” as in previous versions. This simplification brings clear benefits in terms of ease of use and enhanced security.

    Websocket protocol update

When updating to 2.5.2, please note that the websocket protocol becomes incompatible with WAPT version 2.4. This will result in a disconnection period (“DISCONNECTED”) during the WAPT agent update. This update is performed automatically within two hours of being assigned to all computers.

    Default customer certificates

The new version of WAPT does not support reverse proxies (WAF) performing TLS interception or TLS termination. If a reverse proxy is used in front of the WAPT server, it must be configured as a simple TLS transfer proxy based on SNI (Server Name Indication).

    Dark mode and graphical reporting

Dark mode is now supported on Linux and MacOS, providing an alternative visual experience.
WAPT also introduces native graphical reporting capabilities. Users can create pie charts (see image below) based on selected data directly in all console grids.
For more advanced visualisation needs, the Grafana solution remains a recommended option, with the option of contacting Comitari for personalised advice.

    Some fleet management functions

WAPT 2.5.2 now offers a number of basic administrative asset management functions that work well with operational management, WAPT’s strength.

Custom audit information such as purchase, expiry and warranty dates can now be entered into the WAPT database, making it easier to track and monitor IT assets.

In conclusion, WAPT version 2.5.2 represents a significant step forward in IT asset management. With its commitment to security, improved performance and new features, WAPT continues to position itself as the solution of choice for organisations looking to streamline their IT operations.
