Tranquil IT and open source software: a shared history
Founded in 2002 by brothers Vincent and Denis Cardon, Tranquil IT embodies the spirit of innovation and commitment to open source software. Driven by a shared passion for open source, we have evolved from an IT outsourcing business to a solutions development company, particularly in the areas of workstation management and cybersecurity.
A historic commitment to free software
Tranquil IT’s philosophy is based on sharing knowledge and promoting free digital technology. This approach has resulted in the creation of WAPT, an IT asset management tool. WAPT allows system administrators to deploy, configure, and maintain software on a large scale in a centralized manner.
Faced with a lack of external contributions over time, the company has revised its distribution strategy: WAPT is now available in two versions, one community-based under GPLv3, the other enterprise-based under a proprietary license. In 2022, Tranquil IT announced the end of its contributions to the community version, while inviting the community to take over.
Active participation in the open source ecosystem
Despite this development, Tranquil IT remains deeply committed to the world of open source. It is a founding member of Alliance Libre, a collective of Nantes-based companies engaged in the development of professional open source solutions. It is also part of Hexatrust, a group of European companies specializing in cybersecurity and trusted cloud computing.
This involvement was illustrated in 2023 with the selection of Tranquil IT as part of the government’s “France 2030” program. The goal: to participate in the creation of a sovereign collaborative platform, an alternative to Office 365. In collaboration with BlueMind, XWiki, Linphone, and ParSec, Tranquil IT is responsible for identity management, authentication, and authorization, as well as the deployment of software components on user workstations.
Recognized technical expertise
Tranquil IT focuses on the quality and reliability of its solutions. To this end, it has developed an automated testing system based on mORMot, an open source solution, integrated into its infrastructure via LUTI, an internal tool that automates the creation, testing, and updating of WAPT packages while relying on mORMot to execute and consolidate test results. Thanks to this approach, numerous checks are performed before distribution.
Another area of excellence: Samba Active Directory.
Tranquil IT is now one of the leading Samba-AD integrators in France and Europe. The company supports organizations in their migration from Microsoft AD to an open-source solution, ensuring user management. In addition to its technical expertise, Tranquil IT offers training and documentation to facilitate the adoption of Samba-AD.
